Studentships

Full-time candidates with outstanding academic records may be eligible for one of the following studentships. If you wish to be considered for funding please indicate this in a covering letter with your application.

School bursaries

Bursaries -

  • are awarded on a competitive basis following the recruitment and selection process. UK, EU or international candidates may be considered
  • cover full fees and may provide a maintenance grant up to the value of £13,290 a year
  • are available for full-time study only
  • are normally renewed at the beginning of each academic year provided the student has made good progress and contributed to relevant research activities throughout the year.

ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) studentships

For several years the School has been awarded several studentships by the ESRC.

Please note that:

  • only UK and EU candidates who satisfy certain residential requirements may apply: see the ESRC’s information on Postgraduate Funding Opportunities (quota awards) at www.esrcsocietytoday.ac.uk
  • studentships provide fees and a maintenance grant of £13,290
  • they are available for full-time study only
  • the School must approve the candidate’s application to the ESRC. Candidates must also go through the School’s full application and selection process and be offered a place on the programme, normally before an application is made to the ESRC.
