Lunchtime / Early Evening Seminars from The Praxis Centre
Would you like the Praxis Centre to run a free seminar at your organisation?
This autumn we are excited to be launching a series of one hour topical seminars. It's a great opportunity for us to keep in touch. If this sounds of interest please choose from one of the following five lively, experiential sessions:
Leadership in Turbulent Times
Turbulence disrupts, disturbs, confuses, unbalances and provokes anxiety. The human reflex is to take a tighter grip and try and re-impose control. The inevitable consequence to this strategy is simply greater tension and more intense turbulence! So what to do? The answer is to develop 'Sublime Wisdom'. The sublime requires moving beyond simple technical knowledge and skill to discover your inner 'genius'. Wisdom entails seeing beneath the surface appearance of things to discern the core of important issues; and then the capacity to apply these insights judiciously.
The path to sublime wisdom necessitates firstly regaining your inner balance, then traversing the landscapes of courage, resilience, imagination and silence. This seminar will not only explore these ideas more fully, but you will also have a chance to practice some simple exercises that will provide you with direct experience of the themes discussed.
Interior Design - The Secret of Success in the Leadership of Change
Most change strategies quite rightly place a lot of emphasis on ' Exterior Design', that is the design and development of new products, skills, structures and roles. Too often however there is insufficient attention paid to the equally important issue of 'Interior Design ', that is the design and development of the inner states of consciousness and culture that will be required to embed and embody the outer changes.
In this seminar we will review the concepts and theory behind the development of individual consciousness and organisational culture. Then we will explore the importance of 'playfulness' in organisational change, both as a cultural value and a personal capability. And you will get to practice it with each other before we finish!
Company snapshot
In this one hour session participants will have the opportunity to create a shared snapshot of the organisation they work in. This is an invigorating and lively hands on session in which a brief chronological timeline of he company is compiled based on the realtime experience and memory of the participants gathered. A deepening of the experience is encouraged by also including anecdotes and shared stories of the people and events that have populated this history and brought to inspiration by including some of the images and metaphors ( both written and sketched)that personalise and identify the unique character of the organisation as defined by the people working in it. The end result is a visual and epigrammatic snapshot of the company celebrating the multidimensionality of people and work in today’s business culture.
Company Impression
In this one hour session participants will have the opportunity to create a living colour reframe of their company using paint, pastels and chalk. Participants will explore the words and language that describe their experience of life in the organisation they work in and to transform this into a metaphoric landscape that captures the essence of the real time experience. What this picture has to say about the culture of the organisation is fascinating, honest and deeply reflective as a shared experience with room for considering the ‘unsaid’ of the organisation as well as its celebrating its colourful successes.

Join Sandy Cotter co-director of Cranfield School of Management’s Praxis Centre. Let us introduce you to the centaur approach to leadership development available only at Praxis which will give you a genuine insight into how to connect with others in a way that leads to a good outcome whether motivating a colleague, influencing a boss or selling to a client. Let’s sit down together at the leading edge of ideas and figure a way forward in these challenging times.
Reclaiming our Power
Rather as the bees gather pollen from every flower that they visit, we can find ourselves gathering unwanted imprints of energy and moods from every interaction that we make. These imprints become energetic pollution and distract us from our own thought processes, undermining our personal clarity and power
How do we keep our energy clear and uncluttered? and furthermore increase the effectiveness of our decision making and actions?
We have to become aware of our personal energy field and how it interacts with the world. We need to learn about how we may give away our power, take energy and power from others and allow ourselves to become imprinted with other people’s ideas and decisions, thereby losing our originality and clarity.
During this session we will investigate practical meditative and breathing techniques which will allow us to begin to see how easily we can reclaim our energy and power.
