Theme 2 Competencies
At Cranfield, Dr David Partington and Dr Sergio Pellegrinelli are at the forefront of developing understanding of the competencies required for high performing programme managers. Investigation reveals two further competencies that need to be developed:
- Project management
- PMO management
Project management competencies are well defined in national and international standards (e.g. PMI, IPMA), but were not developed through the rigour of research in the way that the programme management competencies were developed.
This research theme aims to:
- bring rigour to the re-development of project managment competencies
- develop a competency set for PMO managers
- promote the integration of the work already carried out on programme management competencies into international standards.
Key to this is our involvement with the professional institutions, including the Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards (GAPPS), APM, PMI, OGC and IPMA.
