Benefits Management: Delivering Value from investments in Business Change

Historically change programmes, particularly those focussing upon IT, were initiated without any ‘real’ clarity of vision or appreciation of the intended benefits: vague, un-quantified statements like ‘better information’ were provided as the rationale for the project. Managers often had quite different views of the proposed benefits. Frequently the confusion was only clarified after the programme was delivered but then, of course, it was too late to make changes. The project would be delivered but often without many of the intended benefits!

This course will provide you with an approach, a process and the tools to secure greater benefits from your change projects and programmes. By the end of the course you will have a methodology which will enable your organisation to increase the return from its change investments, including those focussing upon IT.

What will I get out of the programme?

  • A clear understanding of how your organisation can become more successful in delivering the maximum benefits from its investments in change
  • An approach supported by proven tools and techniques that enable ‘real’ benefits to be identified and realised
  • Techniques to identify the key stakeholders and encourage them to actively support the project
  • Practical experience in applying the tools and techniques to delegates’ real projects.

What is the programme about?

This practical course will prepare you to identify the potential benefits that can be obtained from your organisation’s investments in change, together with clarifying the business redesign needed to deliver them. This will enable you to build more robust and realistic business cases and then actively manage the realisation of the agreed benefits.

You will explore how organisations’ projects and programmes can be aligned with business objectives, how to gain stakeholder buy-in and learn how to overcome the obstacles that can prevent the realisation of available business benefits.

Who is the programme for?

The course is intended for managers responsible for planning, justifying and sponsoring organisational and IT change projects.

  • Business and IT project managers
  • Programme managers involved in managing a collection of projects, or working in the Programme Management Office
  • Project and programme sponsors
  • Senior managers and professionals involved in developing and evaluating business cases, possibly being a part of an investment governance group.
