GENERAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAMMES

We are committed to generating a body of knowledge that enables leaders at all levels in an organization to: better understand the realities of leading strategy and change in today’s multi-goal organizational environments; develop their strategic, general management and change leadership capabilities at each stage of their career; identify and raise their strategic and leadership contribution wherever they are in the organization; and to create effective strategy making and implementation processes and practices.

Our research translates into theoretically robust and practically sound leadership ideas which underpin each of the General Management programmes, and in so doing, differentiate them from other providers of executive development. These ideas include: leading change in a pluralistic organizational environment; organization politics; new strategic leadership capabilities; developing an external perspective; managing knowledge for organizational and personal benefit; managerial relationships; future business leadership development practices and processes; strategic management and engagement of people; high performance teams and team work in complex circumstances.

OUR RESEARCH

We work in close collaboration with senior executives in a growing number of private and public sector organisations. We focus on questions, ideas and concepts of direct relevance and application to the leadership of business, and we see leadership as an organizational as well as an inter-individual process. We seek to understand better the contribution of leadership to sustained organizational success, and we are interested in organizational leadership processes as much as individual leadership approaches, seeing the capability of leaders at every level as key to creating and sustaining organizational performance.

Current projects include:

  • luck, legacy and leadership: the comparative contribution to sustained organizational success
  • leadership after recession
  • performance under pressure
  • strategic leadership capabilities
  • voluntarism – the organizational, institutional and development implications.
  • business leadership development – content, practices, processes and evaluation.
