2010 International study tour
Executive (part-time) Masters Logistics and Supply Chain Management – China
This year 21 Executive (part-time) Masters Logistics and Supply Chain Management students went to Tianjin in China for the international logistics study tour. Tianjin is the third largest city in China and has witnessed considerable inward investment following the formation of the Tianjin Economic -Technology Development Zones in 1984. Today it is China’s third economic engine after Shenzhen and Shanghai. It is a hot spot for Foreign Direct Investment so it is unsurprising that what sticks in the memory of everyone on the tour is the scale and speed of development taking place: from large scale industrial development zones to the fast (333km/hr) train to Beijing.
The study tour was a combination of lectures and company visits with Q&A sessions. Thank you to the following companies:
- Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. (TFTM)
- Fiberweb (Tianjin) Speciality Nonwovens Company Limited
- DHL-Sinotrans International Air Courier Ltd
- COSCO Logistics
- Tianjin Longwit Grains and Oils Industrial Co Ltd
- Tianjin Brigantine Goldlion Container Service Co Ltd
Special thanks must go to the Institute for Manufacturing & Logistics and the Tianjin University for all their help in assisting with the study tour and providing the presentations on logistics in China, developments in Tianjin and Chinese business culture.
