Dr John Towriss

John teaches on courses across the School of Management including both the PhD and DBA programmes. He started his career as a transportation analyst and planner and has since held a variety of posts within higher education including a spell at the Open University.
John has a wide range of research interests covering the reliability of transportation systems, rail freight, customer service in B2C and B2B contexts as well as quantitative research methods. He supervises a number of PhD and DBA students and always welcomes proposals from prospective students. He is a sought-after chair person for conferences

Johannes joined Cranfield in October 2010 as a Lecturer in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. He holds a doctoral degree in Social Science and Economics with a major in Production Management from WU Vienna, Austria. Prior to joining Cranfield, he taught several graduate and executive level courses. His teaching interests include quantitative models in operations and supply chain management, inventory and capacity control, revenue management, demand forecasting and decision making under risk and uncertainty.
Johannes's research interests cover theoretical and applied aspects in supply chain management with special focus on inventory control and quantitative modelling. He has undertaken research in several industries including paper industry, pharmaceutical and retailing. The major contributions have been in the fields of demand forecasting for production planning, system dynamics of multi-stage supply chains and inventory control systems under consideration of product pricing. His actual research interests are on integrated modelling of inventory control and pricing under risk aversion.
