Research Topic

Alignment of inter-firm performance measures as a predictor of relationship success

Research Issue.

As more firms shrink their core business their periphery of business relationships they manage keeps growing. Most firms use performance measures to govern these relationships, although the scope of use is frequently limited to tracking performance of a service provider or a partner. My research proposes to use existing performance measures as a vehicle to assess how aligned the relationship is to the strategic goals of both members of the relationship. The level of alignment could predict the stability, longevity and overall success of the relationship.

Sector

Business Relationship Management; supply chain management; service outsourcing

Research Methods

Quantitative: Development of an alignment index across multiple sets of performance measures Quantitative: SEM Qualitative: Interviews with relationship managers of sample contracts in the research.
