Engaged Management Scholarship
Conference - 2012: Call for Posters
Aims and scope
A new form of engaged management scholarship is emerging through the rapid growth of professional business doctorate programmes. These programmes are at minimum three year academic doctoral programmes taken after a master's or professional degree. Their key aim is to introduce broad, yet rigorous research and inquiry skills as the foundational learning experience for the participating students. By doing so, these programmes offer ample possibilities for engaged management scholarship where research by students and faculty focuses on stressing problems of management using mixed and multiple forms of inquiry and theory. Such programmes and related forms of research and scholarship are also seen to be critical in the advancement of evidence-based management. The
International Conference on Engaged Management Scholarship has been established as a central venue for the advancement and sharing of knowledge related to engaged management scholarship carried out by professional business doctorate programmes. The conference is organised yearly by the
Executive Doctorate in Business Administration Council (EDBAC) which has broad international representation of academic doctoral providers. Our purpose is to promote the value of engaged management scholarship and to raise its profile internationally.
Our second conference will be held
21-24 June 2012, in Cranfield, UK (see
http://www.cranfield.ac.uk/som/dba). The conference will consist of research papers, panels, invited talks and presentations, and a doctoral consortium. It is open to all scholars who are actively involved in practicing engaged management scholarship or investigating different forms of it.
The conference invites submissions of posters that report early research findings and new research ideas related to engaged management scholarship. They are also included to enable participation of students who are in early stages of their studies or have not had possibility to write a formal article.
Research posters to the conference can cover any area of management inquiry irrespective of theory, discipline or method of inquiry. Poster sessions will be organised during Friday and Saturday in the conference at the conference site and posters will be available for scrutiny for conference participants and other faculty of Cranfield School of management. A poster submitted to the conference needs to meet the following criteria:
-
Outlined research needs to be relevant for evidence-based management and management practitioner scholarship,
-
Research needs to clearly address an identified practical management problem and discuss how the study helps to understand or address the identified problem,
-
Research needs to have potential for clear managerial or practical conclusions from use of the theory and evidence at hand.
-
One of the authors must be a student or an alumnus from a professional doctorate programme.
