Agile Supply Chain Research Club Meeting: Product Servitisation

As part of the Cranfield Agile Supply Chain Research Club (ASCRC) events for 2012, the theme of this event is product servitisation.

Product-based competitive advantage is fleeting and easily imitated by competitors. As such, many highly profitable companies are bundling products and services into solutions. This integration has implications for how supply chains are designed and managed.

ASCRC was founded in 1998. Our mission is to develop creative, customised insights into the complexity of today's supply chain environments and hence be Europe's centre for cutting edge supply chain research.

The primary focus of ASCRC is the creation of new knowledge - leading to outputs that are of value to our industrial partners and which are relevant to our teaching.

Agile Supply Chain Research Club Meeting: Customer responsive supply chain strategy

As part of the Cranfield Agile Supply Chain Research Club (ASCRC) events for 2012, the theme of this event is Customer responsive supply chain strategy.

Markets have become increasingly demanding such that one size does not fit all when it comes to supply chain strategy. Research has shown that supply chain strategies should be developed to meet the needs of different customer segments, however this remains a challenge in practice. What have we learnt at Cranfield?

ASCRC was founded in 1998. Our mission is to develop creative, customised insights into the complexity of today's supply chain environments and hence be Europe's centre for cutting edge supply chain research.

30th - 31st October 2012 Brussels The European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management

5th European Forum on Market Driven Supply Chains

The theme of the Forum is the emerging concept of Demand Chain Management. There is a growing recognition that supply chains should be designed from ‘the customer backwards’ rather than from ‘the company outwards’. The general tendency in the past has been for organisations to take a ‘supply-centric’ view of supply chain design rather than a ‘customer-centric’ perspective. In other words supply chain decisions have traditionally been taken with the objective of maximising the supplying company’s efficiencies with the aim of providing an acceptable level of service at least cost. In today’s marketplace, this approach is becoming less viable as customers move into the driving seat with increasing demands for a tailored logistics response.

The idea behind the forum is to provide academics from a broad spectrum of backgrounds with an opportunity to share new ideas in the development of market-driven supply chains. Previous participants have had a variety of backgrounds including operations management, logistics and supply chain management and marketing.

#CranfieldSCInsight2012 Gala Dinner

Speaker: Dr Martin Christopher, Emeritus Professor of Marketing & Logistics at Cranfield School of Management
SUPPLY CHAIN 2.0: MANAGING THE SUPPLY CHAIN IN AN AGE OF UNCERTAINTY

It is now thirty years since the idea of supply chain management first emerged and during that time significant progress has been achieved in the adoption of the basic principles of end-to-end pipeline management by many companies. However many of the accepted principles and practices of what we call supply chain management are based upon classic forecast-based methodologies. In this presentation it will be suggested that the global business environment has changed fundamentally since those ideas were first espoused. We now live in an age of turbulence and volatility which calls for radically different solutions. The challenge will increasingly be to find ways to make our supply chains more flexible and adaptable - able to respond to the unexpected and to be resilient against shocks and surprises.

Agile Supply Chain Research Club Meeting: Measurement of supply chain performance

As part of the Cranfield Agile Supply Chain Research Club (ASCRC) events for 2012, the theme of this event is Measurement of supply chain performance.

Performance measurement drives behaviours and informs decisions, but how can it be used to ensure that trade-offs inherent in SCM are overcome and sub-optimisation avoided?

ASCRC was founded in 1998. Our mission is to develop creative, customised insights into the complexity of today's supply chain environments and hence be Europe's centre for cutting edge supply chain research.
