David Ferguson

David has broad experience working on developing and delivering projects and initiatives with the private, public and voluntary sector, spanning nearly twenty years. This has included programme management and development of million pound regional regeneration initiatives, the setting up of new teams, services and SME management and training initiatives, as well as specialist contracts relating to business process re-engineering analysis and solutions. Incorporating chair and co-founder roles within a more voluntary nature, David has also provided almost ten years of capacity building support for NGO and voluntary organisations, structures and implementation outputs in the UK, Ghana and Eastern Europe.

Whilst working as a regeneration consultant, David completed his full-time MBA (specialising in project management) at Cranfield School of Management in 2004, and then took on an additional part-time research fellow contract relating to a Measuring Sustainability Value as an in-company, action-research programme collaboration with EDF Group's Corporate University. Following a successful Masters of Research degree relating to corporate sustainability, David completed his PhD within the Doughty Centre as an industry sponsored company case-study investigating the operationalisation of corporate sustainability performance.

In keeping with the Doughty Centre's ethos, David's academic interest is of a practical and pragmatic nature. It relates to the emerging area of corporate sustainability performance management systems. This dovetails his PhD management research with previous Masters degrees in Total Quality Management and Energy Management.

David's first authored publication was for the National Healthcare Council for Scotland in 1999 regarding management training quality standards. With regards corporate sustainability, recent publications relate to Ashridge/ACCA publication (international MBA competition) in 2004, Corporate Governance in 2007 and through EABIS (European Academy of Business&Society) in 2008. All works relating to the management, development and embedding of corporate sustainability performance at the organisation/project level.

Outside work, David's interests include organic gardening, cooking, country walks and badminton, and wherever possible further exotic explorations and scuba dives in warmer climates!
