What we do

At the same time as organisations are becoming critically dependant on their information systems and technology for success, the pressures of an increasingly competitive environment, combined with opportunities from rapidly changing technology, mean the issues to be managed and the factors influencing success with information systems and technology are becoming more demanding and complex.

The work of the Information Systems Research Centre (ISRC) focuses on studying these issues and finding new and innovative ways of addressing them. Working in close partnership with member organisations, the ISRC emphasises the production of relevant research and developing new practical approaches that are of direct value to members. Established in 1993, the ISRC is one of the leading academic research centres in Europe, and has conducted pioneering work in many areas of IS management. Located in one of the world’s top business schools, the ISRC can bring a truely multi-displinary perspective to the exploration of contemporary IS issues and problems.

"Capitalising on information was one of the main drivers for creating HM Revenue & Customs. We are doing that by establishing an Information Centre to bring together the HMRC's vast amount of information and add value by using it to support decision-making, planning and performance. This involves a major programme of change, and working in partnership with the ISRC has been hugely valuable to us in carrying it out. We have adopted Cranfield's approach to benefits management, gained from their research on making effective use of analytics, and worked with them on a ground-breaking study of how to really operate as a programme in handling complex, strategic change in a very different way from the scaled-up project methodology you often see programmes adopt.”
