Why Cranfield?

A life-changing experience

As a school of management, not just a business school, we believe passionately that theory is nothing without practice and ideas cannot come alive without action. We know that your success as a manager and business leader depends not just on what you know, but also on how you apply what you know, and we are committed to helping you succeed.

The Cranfield MBA is founded on three pillars:

With so many business schools now offering MBA programmes, it is useful to look at independent accreditations and MBA rankings – both indicators of programme quality – when starting to prepare your shortlist of schools.

“Coming to Cranfield to do my MBA has truly been worth it. The cohort, the diversity, the practical experience of the lecturers and the personal and professional development, have all contributed in preparing me for the future and its opportunities.”

Charles Ifedi, MBA 2007, Nigerian
Chief Officer Strategy and Expansion, InterSwitch Limited

A focus on personal development

A defining feature of the Cranfield MBA is our focus on your personal development. It is at the heart of your MBA experience because we believe understanding yourself is the first step to achieving your professional goals.

Personal and Professional Development is a core module that runs throughout your programme and you will explore how you work in a team, how your colleagues perceive you, your leadership style, and how you get the best out of others.

We will prepare you for business leadership by making you sensitive to cultural differences, ethical behaviour and social values. You will become skilled at team working, you will communicate more effectively and you will learn to be more persuasive, decisive and confident.

It is these 'soft skills' that will give you the edge with recruiters.

“The relevance and perceptiveness of the feedback from my peers, and the openness shown by the entire team are testament to the level of trust and understanding we developed of one another. This was certainly aided by the emphasis on personal development, teamwork, and hands-on application of organisational behaviour principles and theories.”

Richard Caseley, MBA 2005, British
Associate Director for Education, Skanska Technology Ltd

An emphasis on practical application

The Cranfield MBA is about best practice and practical application. For more than 40 years we have been working with leading companies across the globe, pursuing our mission to improve the practice of management.

We are one of the largest providers of executive education programmes in the world which allows our faculty to explore application of best practice and new ideas with the 7,000 managers who come to Cranfield each year. This ensures that what you learn on the MBA is directly linked to what is actually happening in the business world.

“MBA students can learn technical skills such as finance and marketing at any MBA school. What really sets Cranfield apart is the quality of their teaching and the strong emphasis on the practical development of leadership capabilities.”

Kieren Beltrame, EMBA 2007, Australian
Senior Partner, iProCon HCM Ltd

Experienced students and faculty

Our students have an average age of 33, have nine years' work experience and come from more than 40 countries. As a result they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the classroom. They are selected to provide a rich diversity in terms of skills and expertise and have a common desire to learn from each other.

Our faculty are not just leading academics in their field – they are also practitioners. They work directly with senior executives, from global corporations to business start-ups, and their practical knowledge means they are people who understand business needs.

It is this mixture of mature experienced students and faculty closely involved with practical business realities that creates a rich, rigorous and relevant learning environment.

“The teaching faculty are all so friendly and approachable and really know their subjects well, both as practitioners and academics. I am already using what I have learned to make improvements within my own business and that of my clients.”

Christine Gatman, EMBA student, British
