THE INTERNATIONAL EXECUTIVE DOCTORATE

Inviting you to engage with Cranfield’s
practitioner-oriented research community

Cranfield School of Management plans to deliver this International Executive Doctorate programme, which is tailored to the needs of senior managers around the world, in partnership with TiasNimbas Business School of Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

The International Executive Doctorate is the highest level business qualification one can attain and is designed for experienced senior managers and executives who already have a master’s degree and wish to carry out in-depth research on a key management issue in their field to advance their professional career.

Studied part-time over four years, the programme will combine the outstanding reputation of Cranfield’s Executive Doctorate programme with the enhanced international context provided by TiasNimbas and the Tilburg School of Economics and Management, which is world renowned for its research in economics and business. The Cranfield Executive Doctorate is one of an elite few DBA programmes worldwide to be accredited by the Association of MBAs, the world's impartial authority on postgraduate management education.

We believe this programme to be the first doctoral programme in the world that leads to two degrees: a DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) from Cranfield and a PhD from Tilburg University. DBA candidates are a highly diverse group of professionals from a variety of industries, cultures, nationalities and backgrounds. As well as the networking and learning opportunities, participants will benefit from the quality of study facilities, supervisory expertise, alumni networks and the international research perspective offered by Cranfield and TiasNimbas.

This unique, research-based, issue-driven programme provides an accelerated route to an executive doctorate. A Cranfield Executive Doctorate enables you to differentiate yourself through research that helps you develop leading edge thinking.

The executive doctorate is cohort based - meaning you join a diverse, carefully selected group of students from around the world for the taught modules, and stay networked with them throughout the programme and beyond. At Cranfield, we support you in every way to maximise your chances of successfully completing the executive doctorate programme.
As the research is likely to be thematic- rather than discipline- based, you are supported by a panel of faculty members rather than by a single supervisor. This ensures you will receive outstanding support in your studies.

I personally look forward to welcoming you onto this world-class programme.

Professor Alan Harrison
Director, Executive Doctorate Programme

PhD Studentship
Step Change in Agri-foods Logistics Ecosystems

Cranfield School of Management – one of Europe’s top management schools – is offering this full-time PhD studentship within its Supply Chain Research Centre working on the SCALE project.  The SCALE project has the ambitious goal of both increasing economic competitiveness and improving environmental sustainability of food and drink supply chain logistics in the context of rising food demands, increasing energy prices and the need to reduce environmentally damaging emissions across the North West European (NWE) region.

Cranfield University is the lead partner on the project with a direct responsibility for work package two which acknowledges that collaboration across national boundaries and entire networks may need new innovative business models to support the alignment of strategy, which will enable the delivery of an optimal solution for the network as opposed to localised approaches.  The successful candidate will be involved in the research, development and validation of a collaborative framework suited to the needs of the food and drink logistics sector.  The framework will facilitate the development of multi-party collaborative relationships to improve the overall sustainability of food and drink logistics ecosystems in the NWE region.  The studentship is tenable for 3 years from 1st May 2012.

Applications are invited from exceptionally qualified candidates for this funded full-time studentship under the supervision of Dr Denyse Julien.  Given the integrative nature of the project candidates with a background/experience in the food sector and also knowledge of sustainability or network collaboration would be desirable.  Any relevant specialist masters degree would be an advantage. General admission requirements are available on the website.

UK, EU and international candidates may apply.  The studentship will cover full payment of fees at the UK/EU rate of £6,500 per annum and provide an annual maintenance grant of £13,590.

Full details of the PhD programme are available on the doctoral programme pages of the School’s website and cover admission requirements, fees, frequently asked questions and the application and selection process.  Application is online and candidates are required to provide a 1500 word research proposal. Please indicate ‘SCALE project’ clearly in your application.

The closing date for applications is 29th February 2012.  For an informal discussion about the project, please contact Dr Denyse Julien tel +44 (0)1234 751122, email d.m.julien@cranfield.ac.uk  Website : click here
