The Royal Military College of Science traces its origins back to 1772. The college moved to its present site in 1946 and the Royal Charter was granted in 1953. In 1984 the MOD awarded a contract to Cranfield University for the provision of academic teaching, support and research.

Today this unique faculty undertakes the education of armed forces, civil servants and industry personnel from all over the world.

Accommodation

There are three types of accommodation available to students at Shrivenham:

1. Single rooms on campus in
Officers' Mess accommodation
2. Married Quarters
3. Rented accommodation

The first two categories are available to British military students. Although military students from overseas are not entitled to occupy these types of accommodation, they may able to do so if there is spare capacity. This option is not open to civilian students but we can assist in finding rooms or houses to rent in the local area.

Apart from your Course coordinator, there are specific members of staff who can help and advise you.

Sports and social

The campus offers many facilities on site including riding stables, a heated, outdoor, swimming pool, a gym and a golf course.

While there is every opportunity for sport and physical activity, other tastes are catered for with drama, singing and art amongst the options.

Student support & welfare

International students and those who may benefit from additional help and support are encouraged to make contact before arrival.

Students with a disability, medical condition or health problem will be offered support and help to succeed in their studies. Dyslexia assessments can be arranged. Make sure the Admissions Officer knows your situation and contact the Learning Support Officer before you start your course.

Family welfare is well served by the agencies using the Jubilee Community Centre, including health visitors and other professional services. Contact the Hive information service for further information: amenities.shrivenham@hive.co.uk

Eating & drinking

Students are entitled to join the Officers Messes and to use the bars and restaurants even if they do not live on site. The Student Centre on campus has a small supermarket and serves snacks and drinks which can be eaten in the spacious seating area. The Jubilee Community Centre is nearby serving freshly prepared snacks and lunches.

There are supermarkets, restaurants, fast food outlets and pubs within walking distance in the nearby villages and all the facilities of the large town of Swindon are within a 20 minute bus ride or drive.
