Telecom Design Communications sale to Abacus Group...

Jerry Sandys, MD, Telecom Design Communications (TDC)
Jerry Sandys completed BGP in 2001. Ten years before, he had founded Telecom Design Communications (TDC), a specialist distributor of electronic components. Following BGP the business completed its first three-year business plan and made some radical changes in its structure, business systems, management team and business focus.
Jerry says of BGP: “Spending this time amongst a group of like minded owner-managers was extremely enlightening. CREDO has developed a way of learning which extends far beyond the lecture room. I gained so much from the experience and knowledge of the other participants on the programme. Participants also benefit from the tutors’ personal experiences and a whole raft of further support.”
Jerry and his team continued to work with BGP faculty on creating and realising business value. In mid-2004, his ambitions for the company were reached through a sale to the Abacus Group. The deal achieved the best of both worlds: it enabled Jerry to remain as MD of the company, and allowed TDC to develop as part of a £200 million international group. Says Jerry: “Without the support of BGP, TDC would never have become so focused on finding new ways to sell more of broadly the same thing to broadly the same sorts of customer.”
