PMA - Intellectual Capital Group
The PMA IC Group is a global and multidisciplinary network of thought-leading academics and practitioners who jointly facilitate and participate in cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer in the area of measuring and managing intangible assets and intellectual capital. The aim of the PMA IC Group is to help raise the awareness of intangible assets as critical value drivers in today’s economy and actively engage in global cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer in this exciting field.
Intangible elements such as knowledge, image, relationships, or organizational culture have always been factors in the economy. Today, however, these intangible elements have moved from the periphery to the core of our modern economy. A recent survey commissioned by the consulting firm Accenture confirmed that most executives around the world believe that intangibles are critical for the future success of their businesses. However, at the same time, most of them agreed that their current approaches to measuring and managing intangibles were either poor or non-existent. A recent report by the Brookings Task Force on Intangibles outlined that the large and growing discrepancy between the importance of intangible assets to economic growth and the ability to clearly identify, measure, and account for those assets is a serious problem for business managers, investors, and governments.
The problem of measuring and managing intangibles is not confined to any particular discipline and spans many different fields including Accounting & Controlling, Strategy, HR, IT, Marketing, Finance & Economics, Law, Public Policy, and many more. Participants of the PMA IC Group therefore come from various disciplines and engage in a broad range of practical and theoretical projects addressing areas including:
PMA IC Symposia
In the years between the bi-annual PMA conferences, the PMA IC Group meets for a symposium. The aim of the PMA IC Symposium is to bring together the leading minds in the field of measuring and managing intellectual capital and intangible assets to share with each other the latest thinking and latest insights in this fast evolving and multi-disciplinary field. For more information, past delegates and pictures of the past two Symposia at the Stern School of Business, New York City and Cranfield School of Management, UK, please click here.| After the first successful PMA IC Symposium many of the members agreed that there was a strong need for an inter-disciplinary book on ‘measuring and managing intellectual capital and intangible assets’. Many PMA IC group members have contributed to “Perspectives on Intellectual Capital”, which was published in 2005 by Elsevier.
