Apprenticeships vital to build the workforce of the future
Apprenticeships are essential to help build a sustainable workforce and get more people into employment, according to a new report by Cranfield School of Management and learndirect. ‘Nurturing Talent: building the workforce of the future’ outlines how more needs to be done to promote the value of vocational education and the vital role employers should play in this. The report makes a number of recommendations, including: reviewing the school curriculum to include work related learning; ensuring schools provide high quality and impartial information, advice and guidance on careers and further education; taking steps to improve the status of vocational education and training and maximising the use of technology by extending its use beyond teaching and learning.

Progress stalls again for women on boards
The authors of the 2013 Cranfield Female FTSE board report have expressed concern that after a short period of growth, complacency may again be setting in when it comes to improving the number of women on the boards of the UK’s top companies.

Cranfield Professor receives OBE from the Queen
A Professor from Cranfield School of Management received his OBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace today (26 March). Olympic champions Victoria Pendleton and Alistair Brownlee and the designer Stella McCartney were among those also receiving honours at this morning’s ceremony.

Deepak Kuntawala (BGP 2005) named Global Entrepreneur of the Year
Congratulations to Deepak Kuntawalam (who studied the Cranfield Business Growth and Development Programme in 2005) who has been named Global Entrepreneur of the Year at the Indus Entrepreneur (TiE) UK Awards 2013. Keynote speaker, the Rt. Hon. Nick Clegg MP, Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the Liberal Democrats, presented the DVK CEO with the prize on 18 March.
