A Team Based View of The Strategy Process

Supervisor: Mark Jenkins BA MSc DPSE PhD

This project combines two areas of research: the work on the behaviour and performance of teams and the work on strategy development and execution. It gives rise to a number of potential research questions:

  • Do the characteristics of teams apply to the way in which strategy is both developed and executed?
  • How can strategies benefit from team based behaviours?
  • Where and how do teams develop in the strategy process?

These potential questions are all focused on the relationship between team dynamics and strategy. Professor Jenkins has been studying the role of team dynamics and strategy with particular reference to Formula 1 motorsport. He is keen to develop this work further by recruiting a number of capable and enthusiastic PhD students. Although there is no requirement for a specific academic background, qualifications which include organisational behaviour, sociology and psychology would be particularly relevant.

The specific nature of the projects will be defined in discussion with the prospective candidiates.
