Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management - Message from the Director

Message from the Director

I am delighted to welcome you to the next issue of our e-Newsletter and update you on some of our recent successes, highlighting how we continue to work with industry and provide impact in the logistics and supply chain sector for now and the future.

It is with pleasure that we welcome our new part-time students to Cranfield, who have begun the Executive (part-time) MSc programmes in Logistics & Supply Chain Management. This is the largest group we have had for this programme and with demand high, we will be launching another start date for 14 October 2019, which will be in addition to the traditional February start date.

Applications are being taken now and the Course Director Dr. Soroosh Saghiri would be delighted to talk to you or colleagues who might be interested in applying.

My colleague Mike Bernon, Executive Development Director for our customised programmes, reflects on current trends in the short, executive course sector and how we are assisting companies to face the challenges and disruptors of the future.

I look forward to hearing from authors who may be interested in joining myself and my colleague Professor Emel Aktas in the creation on a new book “Supply Chain 4.0”.

We are working on a major proposal for the “Strength in Places Fund” which, if successful, will provide us with an excellent opportunity to engage with industry and drive the agenda for the application and use of leading technologies such as artificial intelligence, drones, robotics, supply chain analytics etc. in logistics and supply chain management.

If you are interested in being part of this exciting proposal and assisting in the future vision for the industry please get in touch.

MICHAEL V9Colleagues will be attending the Talent in Logistics Conference in Milton Keynes on 27th June 2019. We would be delighted to see you there, please do come and see us.

I am confident that this e-Newsletter will continue to be an excellent platform to engage further with all of you and to share our achievements in the future.

Executive Development Programmes continue to meet the changing needs and trends that companies are facing for their people development on customised short courses.

mike v3We see a number of trends, firstly programmes on supply chain fundamentals, such as, demand planning and warehouse management, to get the basics right.

Secondly, training on the new technologies so companies are equipped for the future. Interest here is in Data Analytics, Robotics and Autonomous Unmanned Vehicles etc.

Thirdly, we are supporting organisations facilitating board level strategic workshops to support senior supply chain teams in their forward planning and vision for the future.
Further details can be found on our webpages or contact Noreen Munnelly or Mike Bernon.

Opportunity to join a UK Research and Innovation Proposal (Supply Chain 4.0) - “STRENGTH IN PLACES FUND”

Artificial intelligence, robotics, drones, and big data are already influencing the way in which supply chains and logistics operations function. Despite this, it can be challenging for businesses to understand which is the latest technology or digital practice that is going to provide them with a competitive edge.

Our proposal aims to create a new Supply Chain 4.0 Hub where companies will have access to a range of technologies and they will be supported by our world-leading logistics and supply chain management expertise.

An event focussing on this proposal took place at Cranfield University recently and it was a major success.

Let me know if you are interested in being part of this exciting proposal.
